Here at Harrington Housing we understand how challenging this time can be for some. We want to give you some tips and ideas on how to keep busy. Below are some of our favourite ways to productively pass the time, to spend quality time with friends and family you can’t be with, or to further expand your knowledge!

1. Get Cultured

Looking for a more sophisticated way to spend your time in doors? Visit Google Arts & Cultures and you can tour some of the world’s most prestigious museums without the long lines! With the large screen TVs in your Harrington room, it will almost feel like you’re there in real life! https://artsandculture.google.com/

2. Take Advantage of Free Resources

Interested in Photography? Now is the perfect time to learn the difference between f-stop and ISO with Nikon’s Online School! Nikon has been gracious enough to provide online photography classes... ALL FOR FREE! https://www.nikonevents.com/us/live/nikon-school-online/

Maybe you’re more the book worm type? Take advantage of Springer E-books offering complimentary e-books to download for a limited time with a wide range of subjects: science, technology, humanities, and medicine. https://www.thebiomics.com/notes/springer-free-e-books-list.html

3. Instagram Live Streams

No matter where your interests lie, there is something for everyone on Instagram. As these new times have forced companies and businesses to be creative on how they showcase their content and services, many have turned to Instagram Live. Some of our favourites here at Harrington Housing are: @humansofNY, @indigo, @thrive, @Ellentube.

4. Educate or Entertain through Podcasts

Podcasts can be a very educational or entertaining way to pass the time while we’re social distancing. Whether you have a comedy show playing in the background as you organize yet another closet or kitchen cupboard or you’re enjoying a true crime show on the comfort of your couch – again, there is something out there for everyone! Some of our students’ favourites are: Serial, Work in Progress, You’re Wrong About…, and On Being.

5- Read, read and read

So, you’ve watched all the movies and TV shows you can handle? Why not pick up a book! Reading is a great way to pass the time, learn something new, and escape reality for a bit. Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, there are plenty of books out there to choose from.

We hope these tips help you find ways to stay busy and productive during this time. Remember, we’re all in this together!
